First Lady Melania Trump has responded to comedienne Kathy Griffin’s photo that showed Griffin holding a bloody, decapitated head that was supposed to resemble President Donald Trump.

In a statement posted to Twitter, the First Lady condemned the photo, which Griffin has apologized for posting, and Melania also questioned Griffin’s mental health.

Melania Trump’s statement read:

As a mother, a wife, and a human being, that photo is very disturbing. When you consider some of the atrocities happening in the world today, a photo opportunity like this is simply wrong and makes you wonder about the mental health of the person who did it.

FLOTUS’ statement comes after a disturbing report by TMZ that the president’s 11-year-old son, Barron, was watching television and initially thought the photo of his beheaded father was real. You can read more about that report here.

Griffin’s photo shoot has been condemned by people from Chelsea Clinton to Mitt Romney, and many people on Twitter are calling for CNN to sever ties with her, and CNN has now terminated Griffin from its New Year’s Eve show. After outrage grew, Griffin posted an apology video in which she acknowledged going too far.

“I sincerely apologize. I am just now seeing the reaction of these images, I’m a comic, I crossed the line… I went way too far. … The image is too disturbing, I understand how it offends people, it wasn’t funny I get it, I made a lot of mistakes in my career, I will continue, I asked your forgiveness,” she said.

Donald Trump and his son, Donald Trump Jr. have also reacted to the Griffin beheading pics. “Disgusting but not surprising. This is the left today. They consider this acceptable. Imagine a conservative did this to Obama as POTUS?” Donald Trump Jr. wrote on Twitter.

President Trump tweeted that Barron was having a hard time with the photo and called it “sick.”

“Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!” Trump wrote.
