After numerous reports surfaced that Venezuelan political prisoner Leopoldo Lopez had been hospitalized, many were wondering where he was.

That question remained unclear late into the evening May 3.

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio sent a tweet out saying that it was “confirmed” that Lopez was taken to a military hospital in “very serious condition.”

His wife, Lilian Tintori, went to the government in Venezuela to see where he was and it refused to let her know. She was turned away.

Despite the reports and the refusal, the government came out and released a video that reportedly shows Lopez inside the prison. The caption on the video, which was posted to Twitter, said that Lopez was about to go to sleep, “but he was awaken by Marco Rubio’s ‘lies’ and had to clarify he’s OK.”

There have long been cries to release Lopez from his 13-year prison sentence because many believe that the imprisonment was politically motivated.
