Khuram Butt and Rachid Redouane were identified by Metropolitan police as two of the three terrorists who murdered people at London Bridge and in the Borough Market.

In announcing the names on June 5, police released the above two photos of Butt and Redouane. You can see more photos of Butt below.

Here’s a closer look at the police photo of Redouane:

In a statement, the Metropolitan police said Butt’s full name is Khuram Shazad Butt and Redouane also went by a second name.

“Khuram Shazad Butt, 27, (20.4.90), was a British citizen who was born in Pakistan. Rachid Redouane, 30 (31.7.86) had claimed to be Moroccan and Libyan,” police said in the statement. “He also used the name Rachid Elkhdar, with a different date of birth of 31.7.91. Inquiries are ongoing to confirm the identity of their accomplice.”

Police said they were still working to identify the third attacker. All three terrorists were killed at the scene of the dual attacks, in which they drove a van into pedestrians and then leapt out of it and slashed at the faces and necks of patrons in nearby Borough Market establishments. The horrific attack – which the men claimed they were doing for “Allah” – left seven people dead, and 48 people injured.

There are more photos available of Butt because he was earlier featured in a Jamie Roberts documentary called The Jihadist Next Door. In that documentary, Butt appears in a scene in which a group of radical Islamists meets to pray over an Islamic flag in a park.

The men bow down before the flag, and they are later confronted by police over it.

Police said in the statement that Butt was known to them. “Khuram Shazad Butt was known to the police and MI5. However, there was no intelligence to suggest that this attack was being planned and the investigation had been prioritised accordingly. The other named man, Rachid Redouane, was not known,” police wrote.

The documentary features some of Britain’s most controversial Islamic street preachers, although there is no evidence they had anything to do with the terrorist attack.

Butt was also the jihadi whose photo was widely circulated by a social media user who saw him lying dead on the street after the attacks. He was wearing canisters that police said were hoax explosives.
