‘Overwatch’: Here’s When the Horizon Lunar Colony Releases on PC, PS4, and Xbox One

Horizon Lunar Colony is the newest map to be added into developer Blizzard’s frantic hero based shooter Overwatch. Set in a research station on the Moon, this location will be a 2 Capture Point Assault map with the first point taking place in the gorilla training center and the second set in what appears to be a storage area. This map is 90% indoors, but will feature a plethora of different sightlines to ensure that no class has a distinct advantage over the other. One issue that cropped up during the beta testing of this level was an enemy Windowmaker could spawn trap foes. Thankfully, Blizzard has addressed this issue and assured the community that it would be fixed.

One unique aspect of this map is a zero gravity area that allows players to jump higher than normal. While the applications for this section are a bit limited, it’s a blast to use Lucio and boop enemies off into space. From a lore perspective, this area is the home of Winston and will be the first time players get to explore his home outside of the animated short. We also know this is the location of the wildly rumored Hammond support hero that players have been speculating about. Given Blizzard’s predilection to give players a bunch of breadcrumbs before a new character’s release, it’s fully possible there will be secrets hidden in this map.

Horizon Lunar Colony is the third core map to be added into Overwatch and the 6th DLC level in total. What will be interesting to see is if Blizzard decides to implement this map into the competitive mode rotation. While both Oasis and Eichenwald were introduced right away, it’s possible the developer may hold off given they had a one week grace period with Orisa. This would be ideal as map knowledge and placement is key to winning and no one wants to lose because they don’t know every nook and cranny yet.

Overwatch’s Horizon Lunar Colony releases on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 June 20, 2017.
