President Donald Trump kicked off his weekend with his usual Twitter storm, capping it off with yet another insult towards Morning Joe hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough. In the latest tweet, he called Scarborough “crazy” and Brzezinski “dumb as a rock” just before he also said they are “not bad people.”

Trump also attacked MSNBC for Greta Van Susteren leaving.

The Brzezinski tweet followed two days of a drama that played out on Twitter and television, that started when Trump insulted Brzezinski and Scarborough on June 29. “I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don’t watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year’s Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no,” Trump wrote in two tweets.

The tweets shocked even Republicans, and the Morning Joe hosts responded with a Washington Post op-ed titled “Donald Trump is not well.”

In the op-ed, they accused the Trump Administration of trying to blackmail them with a negative National Enquirer story. The engaged hosts claimed Trump’s team told them they had to apologize for their criticisms of Trump in order to kill the story. The hosts then went into detail about their relationship with Trump on the June 30 episode of Morning Joe, with Brzezinski claiming that the National Enquirer tried to pin a story on her ex-husband, Jim Hoffer and contacted her two children.

Trump responded by claiming that Scarborough called him to ask for the Enquirer article to be pulled, but “I said no! Bad show.”

Scarborough called this a lie, saying that he had texts and phone records “from your top aides” to prove his story. The Daily Beast’s sources claim that Trump’s son-in-law and top adviser, Jared Kushner, personally contacted Scarborough as Morning Joe‘s criticisms of Trump grew more personal in recent months.

“We would take these insults seriously from anyone else. We don’t from him, because, unfortunately, we believe he is in decline.” Scarborough told Vanity Fair.

As for the National Enquirer, it did publish a story on June 2 called “Joe & Mika: TV Couple’s Sleazy Cheating Scandal.” The tabloid also issued a statement, denying any White House involvement in the story. Their statement read:

“At the beginning of June, we accurately reported a story that recounted the relationship between Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, the truth of which is not in dispute. At no time did we threaten either Joe or Mika or their children in connection with our reporting on the story. We have no knowledge of any discussions between the White House and Joe and Mika about our story, and absolutely no involvement in those discussions.”

In Trump’s insults to the Morning Joe host, he frequently claims they have “low ratings.” However, MSNBC is in the middle of a ratings bounce since Trump became president and Morning Joe is included in that. TVNewser reported on June 27 that MSNBC said Morning Joe averaged 997,000 total viewers during the second quarter of 2017, a record for the 6 a.m.-9 p.m. timeslot for the network.
