Nathaniel Glover, aka, The Kidd Creole of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, has been charged in the deadly stabbing of a homeless man in Midtown, Manhattan, according to police.
Glover, 57, was taken into custody in the Bronx on Wednesday, according to ABC 7.
Glover got into a street dispute with a homeless man on East 44th Street at Third Avenue, which resulted in the homeless man being stabbed, according to Police. The homeless man was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say Glover currently works in the area and is now facing a charge of second degree murder. He was partly identified through surveillance video of the incident, according to Daily News.
The homeless man, identified as 55-year-old John Jolly, was stabbed multiple times in the chest shortly before midnight on Tuesday, August 1, according to News 4 New York.
Glover was arrested and charged with murder after being questioned at the 13th Precinct in Manhattan, reports News 4 New York. He had been brought into custody earlier on Wednesday.
TMZ reported that Jolly allegedly called Glover a gay slur and police believe his movtive was an angry reaction to the slur.
Glover works near the Midtown scene as a handyman and security guard, according to New York Daily News.
Glover was one of the members of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, an influential hip-hop group formed in the South Bronx in the 1970’s. The group is best known for their 1982 song, “The Message.” Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five became the first hip-hop group to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. The group also included rappers Melle Mel, Keith Cowboy, Mr. Ness/Scorpio, Rahiem, and DJ Joseph Saddler, aka Grandmaster Flash.
