National Cookie Day was first celebrated in 1987, so National Cookie Day 2017 celebrates the 30th anniversary of the event. Cookies are a sweet treat full of different ingredients including nuts, fruits and chocolates. They can be chewy or crumbly and they have a very long shelf life. Cookie Day is celebrated around the world on December 4 to celebrate everything good about the dessert.
The first National Cookie Day was celebrated in 1987 when Matt Nader of the San Francisco-based Blue Chip Cookie Company said that having a day to celebrate cookies would be fun, much like having a day to celebrate secretaries.
The food holiday was also championed by Cookie Monster from Sesame Street. The event can be found in the 1980s “Sesame Street Dictionary,” which was also published in the 1980s. There are other cookie days throughout the year including Oatmeal Cookie Day and Bake Cookies Day.

Mrs. Fields is celebrating its 40th anniversary on National Cookie Day by giving the first 400 fans at every location a free full-sized chocolate chip cookie. The event will celebrate the beginning of the empire built by Debbi Fields starting in 1977. There will also be deals for up to 40 percent off certain packages on the website while supplies last.
Cinnabon: The Debut of a New Cookie and Free Milk
Cinnabon will be honoring National Cookie Day with the debut of a new sweet treat. The newest delectable treat will be called “Cookie BonBites.” The new treat will be a hybrid of breakfast pastry and dessert, being described as an oozy miniature cinnamon roll baked inside of a chocolate chip cookie shell. The new dessert will be available for a limited time. Also for a limited time, when a guest purchases an order of the Cookie BonBites, they will receive a free 8-ounce bottle of Fairlife milk while supplies last.
Great American Cookies: One Free Cookie
On National Cookie Day 2017, Great American Cookies will be offering 1 free original chocolate chip cookie for each guest. The offer is available until 11:59 p.m. at participating locations. A list of locations offering the free cookie is available here.

Whole Foods began its celebration of National Cookie Day early this year, offering 50 percent off everything at the store’s cookie bar between December 1 and 4. The offer is good in U.S. stores only and only while supplies last.
