Myles Hartsfield: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Myles Hartsfield is the star player and a captain of the Sayreville War Memorial High School football team. The school canceled the team’s season amid shocking allegations about “hazing” the may be more accurately described as sexual assault. NJ.com reports that Hartsfield, who is referred to as the team’s star, is at the “center” of the police investigation into the hazing.

Here’s what you need to know:


1. He Hasn’t Been Arrested

The Star Ledger reported on October 10 that six members of the Sayreville Bombers had been taken into custody by police regarding the hazing. It’s alleged that senior members of the team preyed upon the freshmen on the roster. One victim said a finger was inserted in his anus and the same finger was then shoved in his mouth.

On October 11, NJ.com reported that Hartsfield hadn’t been taken into custody but that cops had been to his home, and Hartsfield’s father, Darrel, did go to the local police station.


2. He Lost His Penn State Scholarship

The New York Daily News reported on October 13 that Penn State had pulled its scholarship offer to Hartsfield. The same report says that Rutgers, which courted Hartsfield, would not be looking into signing him.

On June 8, 2014, Hartsfield, a standout defensive back, committed to Penn State. He would have joined the school in 2015 after graduating high school.


3. He Is a Football & Basketball Star at Sayreville

In addition to his football career, Hartsfield is also a basketball player and track athlete at Sayreville. On his Yahoo Sports page, he’s described as being 180 pounds and 5-foot-10. It says he’s a native of Parlin, New Jersey. In 2012, he was a sophomore on Sayreville’s Group 4 state-championship team. In that season Hartsfield, who also plays on offense as a running back and receiver, tallied 486 yards and seven touchdowns.

NJ.com’s Todderick Hunt described Hartsfield in glowing terms, saying:

Hartsfield has the potential to become one of the best players to come out of Sayreville High School. He plays with balance and power and has a nice combination of size, quickness and durability. Hartsfield has the lateral agility, foot quickness and hip flexibility to become a standout safety at the FBS level.

5. His Dad Works for NYU

According to Darrel Hartsfield’s LinkedIn page, he works as the manager of campus media at New York University. His page also says that he was educated at Fairleigh Dickinson University. One of his groups on the social media site is the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
