It’s going to be hard for the Giants and Pirates to top the theatrics that the Royals and A’s turned in Tuesday night, when Kansas City beat Oakland on a 12th-inning Salvador Perez single in the A.L. Wild Card.

But PNC Park is sure to be rockin’ nevertheless as the Pirates make their second straight playoff appearance following a 21-year drought.

Edinson Volquez takes the mound for Pittsburgh, with Madison Bumgarner going for San Francisco, which has won two of the last four N.L. pennants.

Wednesday’s game will be the only playoff game telecast this year by ESPN. The network’s Sunday Night Baseball broadcast team of Dan Shulman and John Kruk will have the call. The game will be preceded by an hour-long episode of Baseball Tonight starting at 7 p.m.

As the Sporting News points out, it will be ESPN’s first broadcast of a Major League playoff game since 2006, a year before Turner joined Fox as MLB’s main playoff TV partners.
