We have seen this scenario before.

When No. 15 Auburn goes to Tuscaloosa on Saturday to play Alabama, the Tigers will be facing the No. 1 team in the nation, just like last season. A year ago when the teams met, then-No. 1 Alabama was defeated by Auburn 34-28, and the victory propelled the Tigers into the National Championship Game.

Sure, Auburn was ranked higher (4th) a year ago and playing at home, but this is the Iron Bowl. And everyone from Dothan to Muscle Shoals will tell you rankings and records don’t matter when it comes to the Iron Bowl.

The 79th edition of the rivalry will be aired on ESPN at 7:45 p.m. Eastern. It is the first time since 2007 ESPN has the game.

Brent Musberger will handle the play-by-play duties with Jesse Palmer on analysis. Maria Taylor will be the sideline reporter.

ESPN will also have its College GameDay crew in Tuscaloosa for the second time this season (Nov. 15 against then-No. 1 Mississippi State). Alabama football legend Joe Namath will join Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and Lee Corso as the celebrity guest game picker. That show airs from 9 a.m. to noon Eastern.
