Jonas Gray got plenty of attention when he won AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 11 of the 2014 season. His career before that never advanced past the practice squad, making him a modern day Rudy.

Here’s everything you need to know about the emerging Patriots running back:

Gray attended Detroit Country Day School, a private high school in Beverly Hills, Michigan. He was listed as a four-star recruit and on October 22, 2007 he committed to Notre Dame.

2. Gray Played College Ball at Notre Dame

Gray’s tenure at Notre Dame was a quiet one until his senior season. He had a breakout year as a senior when he rushed for 791 yards and 12 touchdowns. During his breakout year, he scored in eight straight games. However, his senior season was cut short when he tore his ACL against Boston College, an injury that ended his NCAA career.

3. Gray was on the Practice Squads of 3 NFL Teams

Due to his ACL injury, many teams did not take a risk on Gray. He was undrafted in 2012. He signed with the Miami Dolphins but was cut by the end of training camp in 2013. He then signed with the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. He never reached the active roster.

The third time was the charm for Gray. In 2014 he signed with the Patriots, but again was cut by the end of training camp. He re-signed with the team’s practice squad and in October 2014 was signed to the active roster the day before the Patriots played the Jets on Thursday Night Football.

4. Gray Set a Franchise Mark in 2014

In Week 11 against the Indianapolis Colts, Jonas Gray set a franchise record for most rushing touchdowns in a game. He ran for 199 yards and four touchdowns. His career night earned him AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

5. He Hasn’t Played Much Since Then

The Patriots have used Gray sparingly since his breakout in Week 11. Due to the acquisition of LeGarrette Blount, Gray has been inactive during games like the last week of the season and he was out against the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round. Gray’s closest performance since his outstanding game in Week 11 was in Week 15 against the Dolphins when he rushed 11 times for 62 yards.
