Katherine Downey is the wife of NASCAR driver Carl Edwards, and the couple have now been together for nine years.
Downey is not just one of the smartest and busiest wives in the NASCAR world, but in the entire professional sports world as well.
Despite her demanding profession, she continues to support her husband every way that she can.

Katherine Downey Edwards was born on March 15, 1979, in Columbia, Missouri — the same hometown as her husband Edwards — to Barbara, a University of Missouri graduate, and Edward Downey, a lawyer. She has one younger brother, Edward Downey Jr.
2. She Is a Doctor at the University of Missouri

In 2004, Dr. Katherine Downey Edwards graduated and earned her degree in medicine from the Missouri, Kansas City School of Medicine. According the PlayerWives.com, she completed her residency from the University of Missouri-Columbia in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is a physician who works with patients with traumatic and severe brain injuries.
3. Before Edwards Met Downey, He Dated Amanda Beard

Edwards and former Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard dated for nearly a year in 2005-06.
In The Beard’s book, Water They Can’t See You Cry, Beard calls Edwards numerous things — controlling, jealous and self-absorbed — and details incidents she claims demonstrate Edwards’ manipulative personality. The book also focused on her battles with depression, bulimia and with cutting herself. She was especially critical of Edwards and the NASCAR lifestyle.
4. The Couple Married in 2009 & Have 2 Children Together

Edwards met Downey in 2006, shortly after his relationship with Beard ended. The couple met in Columbia, Missouri, their shared hometown. Three years later, they were married on January 3, 2009.
The couple have two children together: a daughter, Annie, who was born in 2010, and a son, Michael, who was born 14 months later in 2011.
5. Like Edwards, She Takes Her Husband’s Profession Seriously

As PlayerWives.com points out, Carl and Dr. Edwards purchased the stationary for their 2009 wedding invitations from their local Office Depot store.
