Jacob deGrom had quite the offseason between winning the National League Rookie of the Year and marrying his longtime girlfriend, Stacey Harris.
They both grew up in Florida, and deGrom said they are a lot alike.

1. Harris and deGrom Met at a Bull-Riding Event

Harris first met deGrom at a bull-riding event through mutual friends, according to the New York Post.
We met through mutual friends. She’s kind of like me, easy going.
Harris grew up in Lake Helen, and deGrom in DeLeon Springs.
2. DeGrom Proposed on Christmas, 2013

DeGrom proposed to Harris on Christmas, 2013.
He tweeted, “Awesome Christmas she said yes” with a photo of them, which can be seen above.
According to their wedding website, deGrom gave her a shirt that said, “Will you marry me?”
3. They Married in November, 2014

Harris and deGrom married on November 8, 2014 in Florida.
According to the New York Times, the ceremony took place under a canopy of oak trees, and the reception was held in a rustic barn.
4. Harris Missed deGrom’s Last Start of 2014

DeGrom’s parents went to Atlanta to see him for the final time of the 2014 season, but Harris decided she would wait until his final start at Citi Field a few days later, according to USA Today. But, deGrom never got that start.
Manager Terry Collins pulled the plug on deGrom’s season after 178 2/3 innings, with 140 1/3 of them being in the majors.
While deGrom didn’t like the decision, he accepted it.
I really wanted to make my last start Saturday. I tried to talk them out of it, but they told me they wanted to be careful. It probably was going to be more risk than reward.
5. DeGrom Won the NL Rookie of the Year Last Season

DeGrom has huge expectations to meet this season after being named the NL Rookie of the Year.
He finished with a 9-6 record with 2.69 ERA and 144 strikeouts.
He was also named rookie of the month twice in 2014.
