He was slightly rusty after two months off, but Tiger Woods showed flashes of why he used to be the No. 1 player in the world.

Woods carded a 1-over 73 in Thursday’s first round at the 79th Masters at Augusta National.

That was good to get him into a tie for 41st place, but 9 strokes behind leader Jordan Spieth (8-under 64).

If the cut were made now, Woods would be sticking around for the weekend. But it isn’t and we still have Friday’s second round to play before we find out who is spending the weekend in Augusta and who isn’t.

In the second round, Tiger tees off at 10:30 a.m. with Jamie Donaldson and Jimmy Walker. Walker also finished 1-over and Donaldson 2-over.

The group teed off at 1:48 p.m. Eastern on Thursday. They were the second-to-last group to hit the course.
