Fantasy Basketball: DraftKings Best Friday NBA Contests

With the NBA Playoffs in full swing, Heavy’s partners at DraftKings are creating daily fantasy basketball contests designed to make you big bucks. One of the contests, the $90,000 Sharpshooter, is set for Friday, May 15.

Sign up for DraftKings’ NBA $90,000 Sharpshooter contest right here.

The contest gets underway at 7 p.m. Eastern with the tip of Friday’s first game between the Hawks and Wizards. The second game pits the Warriors vs. the Grizzlies.

The contest buy-in is $3 for current members. But if you’re new to DraftKings and just made your first account deposit, you will receive a $3 voucher which can be redeemed to play in the contest for free. The voucher expires a year from when it was issued.

The top 7,000 finishers in the guaranteed contest will win a cash prize, with first place receiving $5,000. Second place gets $3,000, third $2,000.

The game is open to 34,500 participants, but since it’s a guaranteed contest, the payouts will be made regardless if it is filled when it begins.

The rules are simple: You get a $50,000 salary cap to spend on 8 players – 1 point guard, 1 shooting guard, 1 small forward, 1 power forward, 1 center, 1 guard, 1 forward and 1 utility player. The better your selected players do, the better your fantasy team does.

As a first-time user, when you sign up and are prompted for a DraftKings promo code, enter “HEAVY.”

Golden State point guard Stephen Curry is the most expensive player at $10,400, $1,700 more than Wizards PG John Wall ($8,700). Wall returned to for a 3-game absence (broken hand) to rack up 39.5 fantasy points on Wednesday. The hand didn’t appear to be an issue and he’ll be good to go Friday night. At that price, you need Wall in your lineup. I’d take him over Curry.

While looking for big men, Hawks center Al Horford has been a machine and costs a very reasonable $8.200. You really should find a way to have him on your squad.

If you are in the hunt for some bargains, which you’ll have to be, Hawks backup PG Dennis Schroder ($4,600) and Warriors PF David Lee ($2,800) come on the cheap and should be productive. Lee isn’t going to get you 30 points, but with Marreese Speights out, he’ll get more minutes and could be a 20 fantasy point player Friday. At that price, it’s a risk you should take.

Also for first-time players, when you sign up you get a 100 percent deposit bonus up to $600. You put in $600, DraftKings will match your $600.
