Pole Position at the Monaco Grand Prix is vital for any driver’s chances of winning: the last ten races have been won by the pole sitter. The circuit’s tight, twisty street layout makes passing extremely difficult, so a strong qualifying performance is vital to success in Sunday’s race.

All of which means Lewis Hamilton will be extremely happy to have won Saturday’s qualifying and be sitting on Pole for the race. The Mercedes driver set a time of 1:15:098, in the third and final qualifying session, 0.342 seconds faster than teammate Nico Rosberg, who joins him on the front row of the grid. Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo sit on the second row.
