The Golden State Warriors had the best team in the NBA regular season, then went on to win the title. Clearly, they had the fewest holes.
But, there is always room for improvement. And with the 30th and final pick of the NBA Draft’s first round, the Warriors chose UCLA power forward Kevon Looney.
Looney was projected to go in the middle of the first round, but slipped due to concern about a potential hip issue.
The Warriors need an offensive presence in the low post. Centers Andrew Bogut and Festus Ezili and forwards David Lee and Marreese Speights don’t exactly light up the scoreboard.
But Looney isn’t a low-post scorer either. He averaged 11.9 points and 9.2 rebounds, and he can protect the rim. As a senior he made 41.5 percent of his 3-point attempts.
Long-range shooters is not what the Warriors need with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes on the team.
But the team just win the championship, they know what they’re doing.
