VfL Wolfsburg had a very successful 2014-2015 season and look to build on that success in 2015-2016. Wolfsburg won the Dfb Pokal title over Borussia Dortmund, reached the Europa League quarterfinals before losing to Napoli, and finished second in the German Bundesliga in 2014-2015 to return to the Champions League for the first time since 2009-2010, the last time that Wolfsburg won the Bundesliga as well. A lot of Wolfsburg’s resurgence in 2014-2015 was from the outstanding play of Dutch forward Bas Dost, who scored 13 goals in eight games from January 30 to March 1, 2015, and the continued midfield dominance of Kevin de Bruyne. The Belgian midfielder is in the middle of many transfer rumors this offseason, mainly to Manchester City, although Citizian forward, and former Wolfsburg forward, Edin Dzeko said that de Bruyne should stay in Germany. Wolfsburg has not had major transactions in the transfer market this offseason, though they could still lose de Bruyne and defender Ricardo Rodriguez, but they did add German midfielder Max Kruse from rivals Gladbach.

Wolfsburg has a tricky beginning to the season, hosting Frankfurt and German Golden Boot winner Alexander Meier to start the season before traveling to Cologne and hosting Schalke. Wolfsburg also has a tough ending to the season, with three of their last five games on the road, including a trip to Dortmund.
