The Atlanta Falcons opened the preseason with a victory. The New York Jets opened the preseason with a loss. The Falcons looked dominant on their opening offensive series. The Jets never even found the end zone.
Now, these two squads will square off against each other in a preseason battle that pits a handful of storylines against each other with a laser focus establishing some sort of rhythm on both sides of the ball. Kickoff for the week two matchup is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday night.
Matt Ryan looked perfect in week one and Julio Jones is already out there breaking ankles but the Falcons are facing a big-time question mark when it comes to their run game. Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman both returned to practice this week, so keep an eye on how Atlanta integrates the two backs into the offensive scheme.
Meanwhile, the Jets have seemingly faced every possible obstacle an NFL team can face in the preseason. But at the risk of sounded superstitious, let’s not jinx anything quite yet. Ryan Fitzpatrick may get a few more snaps under center but the focus needs to be on a defense that gave up over 400 yards last week. That, quite simply, cannot happen.
The matchup will be broadcast locally on CBS 2 in New York and on CW 69 in Atlanta. Click here for a full TV schedule. No TV? Not a problem. Here’s how to watch online:
