Eli Manning is looking to make sure history does not repeat itself.
That’s both (very) recent Sunday Night Football history and his own history with the San Francisco 49ers.
Of course, the last time the New York Giants played in primetime they blew their first fourth quarter lead of the season and things were less-than-ideal for Big Blue. Meanwhile, the last time the squad squared off against San Francisco, the 49ers defense picked off Manning five times in a 16-10 victory.
It’s a much different San Francisco defensive unit on the field now, particularly up front without the likes of Patrick Willis, Justin Smith and Aldon Smith. Manning spoke with west coast media earlier this week and gave credit to what the 49ers have been able to do this year, despite a lack of veteran talent, particularly highlighting second-year linebacker Aaron Lynch.
Manning is currently No. 15 in the league in passing, averaging 244 yards per game. He threw his first interception of the season last week. On the other side, the 49ers are No. 21 in the league in passing defense, giving up, on average, 258.2 yards per game.
