Israel squandered a glorious chance to reach their first ever European Championship finals by losing at home to Cyprus over the weekend, and now must win in Belgium and get help from Cyprus to finish third in Group B.
The lone major competition the country has reached was the 1970 World Cup Finals, and appeared to be at least in contention for a playoff spot before the Cyprus loss. Now the odds are very long as they face a side in sparkling form.
Though Belgium has clinched a spot in Euro 2016, they still have plenty to play for in Brussels. If they win the match, they will be ranked No. 1 in the next FIFA World Rankings, a phenomenal accomplishment for the small nation with little success historically.
Here is the Group B table after eight matches. The top two teams automatically qualify for the finals, while the third-placed team enters the playoffs.
