Jamaal Charles is the heart and soul of the Kansas City Chiefs offense. And now his season may be over.

In the 3rd quarter of Sunday’s game against the Bears, Charles’ right knee appeared to buckle as he cut towards the line of scrimmage. He went down without taking any contact and stayed down for several minutes. He was helped off the field and into the locker room, where he was immediately ruled out for the rest of the afternoon.

Watch Charles’ right knee on the run:

The Chiefs could have move to 2-3 with a win today, and should be a Wild Card contender in the AFC. Instead they blew a two-score lead to Chicago, and are now 1-4 and without their best player. Losing Charles for the season would be a devastating blow, as he is both the team’s best rusher and receiver. Initial diagnosis doesn’t look good:

Charcandrick West is filling in for Charles at the moment. West joined the Chiefs last season, as an undrafted free agent from Abilene Christian. Knile Davis is also available.
