WATCH: Benches Clear During Cubs-Pirates Game

The Pittsburgh Pirates weren’t happy with Jake Arrieta.

Not only was the Chicago Cubs ace mowing down the Pirates through six scoreless innings during Wednesday’s National League wild-card game, but he also hit a pair of batters in the process. Emotions began to boil over for the Pirates, who were on the brink of elimination, and reliever Tony Watson plunked Arrieta when he came to the plate for his next at-bat in the top of the seventh.

Arrieta stared down Watson on his way to first, and the benches proceeded to clear.

Sean Rodriguez, who had started the game but was benched early for Pedro Alvarez after the Pirates fell behind 3-0 in the third inning, wasn’t exactly a happy camper during this whole altercation:

Rodriguez, who appeared to throw a punch in the middle of the scrum on the field, was ejected and subsequently turned into the internet’s newest meme:

Arrieta, on the other hand, stole second base then proceeded to shut down the Pirates in the bottom half of the inning.
