The Detroit Lions got destroyed by the Arizona Cardinals at home on Sunday, and the story of the game was turnovers.
Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was responsible for three of them, a trio of interceptions that helped put Detroit in a huge hole. The final one — an interception to Patrick Peterson in the third quarter — not only help the Cardinals score a touchdown to go up 35-7, but sent Stafford to the bench in favor of Dan Orlovsky.
Detroit turned the ball over five times to that point, while Arizona didn’t turn the ball over once.
Orlovsky, 32, had attempted just 472 passes in his career before stepping into the game against the Cardinals. He was actually drafted by the Lions in the fifth round of the 2005 draft, but went 0-7 as a starter in 2008 and left the club. He went to Houston, Tampa Bay and Indianapolis before returning to the Lions in 2014. He hadn’t thrown a pass attempt since the 2012 season with the Bucs.
