On paper, the Denver Broncos are the clear pick over the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon. After all, the Broncos started the season undefeated, boast a strong offense and are, well, the Broncos.

But take a second and look at the matchup for what it is; a fairly evenly matched game between a Bears team that is on the upswing and a Broncos squad that is treading water.

Chicago comes into the game at Soldier Field as slim 1-point favorites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark thanks in large part to an offensive production that no one saw coming earlier this season. This is, in fact, the same Bears team that started the season 0-3 and lost Matt Forte to injury. Sometimes, sports just don’t make sense.

Jay Cutler has been playing some his best football over the last few weeks, including 603 passing yards and five touchdowns in the Bears last two victories. As an added bonus, he’s only thrown one interception in that same span. And while the Broncos boast a solid defense, 32 sacks, 12 forced fumbles and nine interceptions, the Broncos haven’t exactly played the league’s most dominant offenses.

Still, the most recent odds trends are not exactly in Chicago’s favor. The Bears are 4-10 SU in their last 14 games and 1-6 SU in their last seven games at home. Meanwhile, Denver is 7-2 SU in its last nine games and 4-1 SU in its last five games on the road.

But what about the Bears history against Denver? That’s a little bit more impressive and another reason why Chicago might be primed for another victory. The Bears are, according to OddsShark, 3-0-1 ATS in their last four meetings with Denver. They’re also 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games when playing Denver and 4-1 SU in their last five home games against Denver.

The total for Sunday afternoon’s Denver vs. Chicago betting matchup is set at 43 points according to the sportsbooks. The total has gone OVER in four of Denver’s last six games on the road and UNDER in five of the Broncos’ last games against Chicago. On the other hand, the total has gone UNDER in five of Chicago’s last seven games.

The OddsShark computer is predicting a 19.6 – 24.2 Chicago victory.
