Welcome to a brand-new world. The Washington Redskins are in first place in the NFC East. This is real. This is the world we are living in.

The squad will try to stay on top of the division this Sunday afternoon with a matchup against the Dallas Cowboys who are, somehow, still just two games out of first place. The NFC East is a weird and wild ride and nothing makes sense anymore.

Of course, there’s a reason for the Redskins to feel confident. Washington hosted a players-only meeting the day before defeating the New York Giants last week and while the Redskins have been a bit of a mess on the road, they’ve been nothing short of dominant at home.

The Redskins play at home this week. Here’s what the early odds have to say about the Monday night matchup, per OddsShark:

Are the Washington Redskins legit? They might be. At least at home.

The Redskins, the offseason laughingstock of the entire NFL, have a good chance to actually stay at the top of the NFC East. This week they take on a Dallas Cowboys squad that is, once again, without quarterback Tony Romo after the Pro Bowl’er re-injured his collarbone on Thanksgiving.

Kirk Cousins – he of the “YOU LIKE THAT” memes – has been nothing short of impressive at FedEx field and now that the Redskins quarterback, finally, has some down-the-field threats available to him (welcome back DeSean Jackson) he can start to show off a bit of throwing powers.

So, how does Washington stay in control of its playoff fate? It starts on Monday night. The Redskins need to win.

The squad got a bit of a break with two late games against the now Romo-less Cowboys and then another divisional matchup against Philadelphia. Meanwhile, the Giants schedule isn’t quite as forgiving. New York, the other NFC “favorite,” still has Carolina and Minnesota on the year and a Sunday afternoon matchup against inter-stadium rival New York Jets.
