The New York Jets have been one of the most surprising teams in the entire NFL this season, but Gang Green may be facing its biggest challenge yet.
That challenge doesn’t have much to do with the opponent, the Jacksonville Jaguars, but rather the in-team bumps in the road the Jets seem to be facing this Sunday. New York comes into the AFC matchup on a two-game losing streak and a string of injuries that threaten to derail the Jets entire season.
Ryan Fitzpatrick will play this week, despite sustaining a torn ligament in his left (non-throwing) thumb last week. That leaves the offensive reigns to Geno Smith, who is dealing with his own injury issues. Oh, and did we mention the Jets’ top receiver, Brandon Marshall, is also battling through injuries to his left ankle and right toe? Yup.
In other words, the Jets are on an injury-prone precipice, but the chance to be 5-3 at the midway point of the season is one New York doesn’t want to miss.
