The Titans and Texans have hit rock bottom. But in the AFC South, that could mean playoffs.

At 1-5 and 2-4 respectively, the Titans and Texans are playing some of the NFL’s worst football. The Texans barely even showed up last week and were blown out by halftime against the Miami Dolphins. The Titans at least gave Atlanta a good fight last week, but a late turnover from backup QB Zach Mettenberger made it five straight losses for the Titans.

With the Colts playing the Panthers on Monday, Indianapolis could be leading the division at 3-5 on Tuesday. That opens the door for Houston, Tennessee, and Jacksonville, all of whom lost to Indy but have at least one victory.

How about this: if the Texans win on Sunday, they could be tied for the lead in the division. If they lose, they could be tied for the worst record in football.

Ryan Mallett isn’t a huge loss for the Texans, but Arian Foster is devastating. Foster was reliable on the ground but also in the pass game, and was targeted 28 times in his four weeks of action.

Even without Foster, the Texans are at least a four-point home favorite this week, according to OddsShark.com. It would appear that the sharks and bookmakers don’t trust Mettenberger, who managed just seven points against Atlanta last week.

The OddsShark Computer is projecting a 20.8 – 23.7 Houston victory.
