Once a fixture that could determine the Premier League, today is now a meeting of two clubs in turmoil. Sure, it won’t take long for teams of Chelsea and United’s financial means to turn things around, but seasons that are normally filled with trophy talk are now revolving around interim management positions.

Louis van Gaal will most definitely still be managing United when they take the field today, but they’ll need to do more than show up to break their three-game BPL losing streak. Chelsea has begun to turn their season around under interim boss Guus Hiddink, but that still leaves them barely hovering above relegation.

Wayne Rooney came off the bench on Boxing Day, and it’s unknown if he’s ready to make his return start. Chelsea is also dealing with striker problems, as Diego Costa will be unavailable for today’s match. The Spaniard is suspended, after picking up a yellow card in Chelsea’s most recent match against Watford.
