It’s finally happened. Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Chelsea.
It’s been a curious struggle all season long for Mourinho and Chelsea, but the manager has had the constant support of team owner Roman Abramovich. After Monday’s loss to to Leicester, Chelsea is now just one point above the relegation zone.
This was Mourinho’s second stay with the club, the first coming from 2004-2008. This season he is 4-3-9 as manager, by far the worst record in his managerial career.
The damage has been done this season for Chelsea. No manager is going to lead them to a BPL title. But this is still one of the most powerful teams in Europe; the reigning English champion and a Champions League finalist.
This opens the door for several high-profile names to step into the fold at Stamford Bridge. The leader of these names is Pep Guardiola, the Bayern Munich manager who is reportedly also on the way out. Guardiola is expected to announced his intention to leabe Munich by the end of 2015.
Since taking over in Germany, Bayern has won two German titles. Guardiola was previously at Barcelona, where he won three La Liga titles and two Champions League titles.
In November, it was reported that Guardiola had given his word to Manchester City management about becoming their next manager.
