Smith was the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. An injury to Smith late in the 2012 season opened up an opportunity for Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick took the starting position and Smith remained the backup even when he returned to health. The 49ers made the Super Bowl but lost in the game to the Ravens.

The 49ers traded Smith to the Chiefs causing the Smiths to move their family to Kansas City. Smith is now the starting quarterback for the Chiefs and with the way he is playing it looks like the Smiths can get settled in to their Kansas City home.
