Things turned ugly after Jose Bautista slid into second base in the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays matchup. Rougned Odor and Bautista exchanged words as Odor took exception to the hard slide.
Odor shoved Bautista in the chest and Bautista charged back at Odor. It escalated quickly as Odor landed a right hook directly in Bautista’s face. He also hit him with his glove for good measure. Impressively, Bautista stayed on his feet after taking the hit.
Shortly after, the benches of both teams cleared. According to ESPN, eight players were ejected.
The two teams began going back and forth a few minutes prior to Bautista’s slide. According to the Dallas Morning News, pitcher Matt Bush nailed Batista in the arm with a pitch. It appeared to be retaliation for Bautista’s bat flip last postseason.
The next inning, the Blue Jays threw at Prince Fielder to retaliate. The benches cleared again but there was not another physical altercation.
