Alabama All-SEC left tackle Cam Robinson was arrested in Louisiana early Tuesday with teammate Laurence “Hootie” Jones, a defensive back.

He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen gun. The stolen gun charge is a felony, while the other two are misdemeanors.

Here’s what you need to know about the situation:


1. Robinson & Jones Were Arrested in Louisiana & Charged With Possession of a Stolen Gun

Robinson and Jones, both of Monroe, Louisiana, were arrested in their hometown early Tuesday morning on weapons and drug charges.

He is charged with possession of a controlled substance, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen gun.

The stolen gun charge is a felony and the other two charges are misdemeanors. Robinson is being held on a $750 bond.

Jones was charged with possession of a controlled substance and illegal carrying of a weapon. No bond amount was available for Jones.



2. The Pair Had Two Guns & Marijuana In the Car

According to the arrest report:

The pair sat in a parked car in Forsythe Park in Monroe, La., after the park closed. An officer approached the vehicle and detected the strong odor of marijuana. The officer found a handgun sitting in Jones’ lap in the front seat. After removing Robinson and Jones from the vehicle, the officer found a bag of marijuana in the car in plain view. He also found a stolen handgun under the seat.

The two were booked at Ouachita Parish Jail.



3. Robinson Is an All-SEC Offensive Tackle & a Highly-Regarded Draft Prospect

Robinson came to Tuscaloosa as the top-rated offensive lineman in the country out of high school.

The junior has started every game of his Alabama career.

He was a Freshman All-American in 2014 and earned first-team All-SEC honors in his sophomore year.

Robinson is widely regarded as one of the top offensive lineman prospects for the 2017 NFL Draft, if he decides to forego his senior season. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has Robinson at No. 7 on his 2017 big board.



4. Jones Is a Backup Defensive Back

Jones was also a highly-touted high school recruit, but has been a backup in his first two seasons at Alabama.

At 6-foot-2 and 214 pounds, Jones is a big safety. He played in 7 games as a freshman and 9 as a sophomore.

Jones chose Alabama over LSU, Ole Miss, Oregon, Arkansas, Stanford and Tennessee.



5. The University Has Yet to Comment on the Situation

The University of Alabama has yet to comment on the situation, but teammates of Robinson and Jones have taken to social media to show support for the two.
