President Barack Obama will not be attending Muhammad Ali’s funeral. Although there was quite a bit of controversy when he decided not to attend Justice Scalia’s funeral and Nancy Reagan’s funeral, his decision this time is not as controversial because he has a very important family engagement happening at the same time.

Here’s what you need to know.

Obama’s oldest daughter Malia’s graduation is on the same day as Muhammad Ali’s funeral. Because of this, the White House senior adviser, Valerie Jarrett will be attending in his place. Valerie knew Muhammad Ali personally.
