The WWE universe will soon find out the identity of Brock Lesnar’s mysterious SummerSlam  2016 opponent.

As announced on July 4th’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Lesnar’s opponent will be revealed on SmackDown this week. Seeing as spoilers typically emerge online after Tuesday night tapings, fans should expect to have their answer even sooner than Thursday.

So who could it be? The major speculation is that it’s Randy Orton, who has been absent due to injury for the past 11 months. Rumor has it that he’s headed to the WWE Performance Center so he can be cleared for in-ring action. But there is a lot of conflicting information when it comes to Orton, as Forbes reports that he is not fully healed yet and that his return will have to be delayed until September.

Who else could it be if not Orton? Another option that has been raised is Seth Rollins. Lesnar and Rollins had a bit of a feud in 2015, but it was cut short when Lesnar shifted focus to The Undertaker and when Rollins left the company for several months due to injury. Many fans are interested in seeing this Rollins vs. Lesnar storyline get a proper conclusion, and SummerSlam could be the perfect time to reignite that plot.

Another possible option is Roman Reigns; some have begun to speculate that the reason the WWE did not pull Reigns out of his Battleground pay-per-view event despite his suspension was because their plan is to have Reigns reclaim his title and then go on to fight Lesnar at SummerSlam.

Another interesting idea raised on Reddit is that Lesnar will face whoever happens to be the WWE Champion in August. Doing this would both create hype for the match while also retaining a sense of mystery. The only question with that, though, is which champion would Lesnar be facing, exactly? After all, there are expected to be two championship belts in the upcoming brand split, one for Raw and one for SmackDown, although it’s possible that this will not take affect until after SummerSlam.

Or could Lesnar’s opponent actually be all three members of the shield? After all, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose all have claim to a rematch with Lesnar, so could we have a fatal four-way to look forward to?

We’ll find out this Thursday on SmackDown; check back in soon for spoilers from July 5th’s taping.
