Carson Wentz Stats & Highlights 1st Preseason Game vs. Bucs

Carson Wentz’s Stats

12-24, 89 yards, 1 interception
Box Score

Carson Wentz made his NFL debut against the Tampa Bay Bucs. It was the best of times; it was the worse of times.

His first game will likely be remembered for a critical error in the redzone. Midway through the third quarter, Wentz overthrew his receiver as the Eagles were driving with a chance to score.

He finished the game completing 50 percent of his passes (12-of-24) for 89 yards. Wentz displayed the ability to extend plays with his legs and connected with his receivers on several impressive throws. Other times, he struggled to find open receivers.

It is hard to make a broad assessment on his future based on one preseason half. He has fantasy value for dynasty leagues as a stash but should be avoided in redraft formats.

Wentz has a steep learning curve after transitioning from North Dakota State, an FCS school, to quarterbacking in the NFL. Sam Bradford will start the season at quarterback for the Eagles. There is some discussion the Eagles could “red-shirt” Wentz this season, meaning he would not play a down aside from preseason.

He currently sits third on the depth chart.

Wentz Threw an Interception in the Redzone

Wentz made a nice pass before a receiver fumbled the ball. The ball was given back to the Eagles after the Bucs were penalized for a personal foul. The very next play Wentz threw an interception. Prior to the error, Wentz had looked solid. At times, he displayed the ability to buy himself time with his feet and fit the ball into tight windows.
