Simone Biles’ Balance Beam Performance in Team Finals Was Excellent

Simone Biles, the best gymnast in the world, finally won a medal at the Rio Olympics, taking gold in the team finals with Laurie Hernandez, Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas and Madisan Kocian. During the women’s Team Finals, the 19-year-old performed in all four apparatus finals and her beam performance clinched the gold for the Final Five. During the qualification round on the second day of the Olympics, Biles was her typical great self, scoring 15.000 on the uneven bars, 15.733 on the floor exercise and 15.633 on the balance beam. She also got an astonishing 16.050 on the vault.

In the final, Biles got a 15.933 on the vault, 14.800 on the uneven bars, 15.300 on the balance beam and 15.800 on the floor exercise. Biles wasn’t completely happy with her beam performance, but it made it impossible for Russia or China to catch up. The U.S. had a score of 184.897, eight ponts ahead of Russia’s
176.688.

This is just the start for Biles. She also qualified for the individual all-around with a 62.366. The individual all-around final is on Thursday at 3 p.m. She’ll also add to her medal count with potential wins in the individual apparatus competitions.
