A freshman Indiana football player has been arrested and charged with child molestation. Police in Randolph County, Indiana, say that Kiante Enis, 19, a freshman wide receiver, said in an interview that he had “consensual sexual encounter that occurred on at least two occasions” with “a child 13 years or younger.” He was arrested on September 21, the day before his 20th birthday, and is being held on a $20,000 bond at Randolph County Jail.

1. Enis Could Face Up to 16 Years in Prison

According to Indiana state law, Enis could face anywhere between 3 to 16 years in prison if found guilty of the level 3 felony. WTHR reports that Enis has been dismissed from the school’s football team as a result of the charges. The station reports that the victim also told authorities that she had a “sexual encounter” with Enis.

2. He Was Raised By His Step-Grandmother Who ‘Raised Him as Her Own’

A USA Today feature on Enis details how he was raised in Indiana having been born in Ohio to a mother who couldn’t take care of him or his younger brother. The pair were raised by their grandfather, Dwight, and step-grandmother, Judy, in Saratoga, Indiana.


3. He Hasn’t Played for IU Yet This Season as He Was Said to Be Recovering From a Concussion

Days before his arrest, IU Coach Kevin Wilson said that Enis, who hadn’t featured yet this season, was recovering from a concussion, according to the Indianapolis Star’s Zach Osterman. The team (2-0) plays Wake Forest in a home game this weekend.


4. A Multi-Sport Star in High School, Enis Originally Committed to Michigan But Later Decided to Stay Closer to Home

Enis was a three-star recruit, rushing for 2,393 yards and scoring 35 touchdowns at Winchester Community High School in Indiana. Initially, he verbally committed to Michigan but later reverted to signing with the Hoosiers. The Muncie Star Press reports that Enis had a full athletic scholarship to Indiana University. That piece adds that Enis was voted the state’s best running back and finished fifth in the Indy Star’s Mr. Football award.

His uncle is former Penn State star and NFL player Curtis Enis.

According to the Star Press, in the Spring of 2016, Enis finished fourth in the all-state 100-meter dash.


5. He’s the Second IU Player to Be Arrested in as Many Days

The Indianapolis Star reported on September 21 that IU kicker Aaron Del Grosso had been arrested and charged with criminal trespassing and drunkenness. It’s alleged that Del Grosso went to his ex-girlfriend’s house to try to get his dog back.
