Tuesday night the next installment in ESPNs “30 for 30” series will be shown, and the subject is one of the most talented college basketball teams to not win a national championship. The Houston Cougars of the early 1980’s, led by head coach Guy V. Lewis and featuring talented players such as Clyde Drexler, Hakeem (then known as Akeem) Olajuwon and Larry “Mr. Mean” Micheaux (current BYU head coach Dave Rose was a co-captain on those teams), reached three consecutive Final Fours from 1982-84 but failed to win a national title.

Tuesday night’s program will focus on the characters who made up those teams, known as “Phi Slama Jama” due to the high-flying style of play that took over the Southwest Conference and captivated many fans across the country. “Phi Slama Jama” is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN Tuesday night, with the program not only discussing the members of those teams but also the impact that their style of play had on college basketball.
