WWE superstar Paige has been suspended for her second time in a year, this time for 60 days.
The news was announced today on the WWE’s official website, with the company saying that the 24-year-old wrestler would be gone for two months due to her violation of the wellness policy.
Paige was recently suspended for a wellness policy violation from August into September, although she has not yet returned to the ring due to unrelated injuries.
On Twitter, Paige quickly responded to the announcement and heavily implied there was something unjust going on and she did nothing wrong.
The last time Paige was suspended, it was reportedly not because she was found to be using drugs but because she was not in town when the WWE tried to give her an unannounced wellness test. Paige claims that because she was away with her boyfriend and could not get back before the deadline, she was automatically suspended.
“However, let me be clear that I was not suspended for failing a drug test, it was merely due to a procedural issue,” Paige said in a Twitter statement regarding the first suspension. “I took the test, I passed it. I arranged said test to happen after I wasn’t at my home when aegis contacted me. So I drove 200 miles to do it. Unfortunately, I didn’t do it in time, according to Aegis.”
In the past, many WWE superstars have been given wellness policy violations for what they say were procedural issues. Recently, Eva Marie was reportedly suspended because she did not turn in paperwork before a deadline. Adam Rose was also suspended earlier this year, and he later came out and said he was shocked by this considering he was taking medication with a doctor’s prescription.
Under the WWE’s wellness policy, which was implemented after the death of Eddie Guerrero, superstars must be randomly tested several times per year to ensure that they are physically healthy enough to perform and that they are not using any illegal substances or any medications without a prescription. Once a superstar’s suspension ends, they must receive drug tests at least 12 times over the course of the following year.
