While Friday marks the beginning of the 2016-17 college basketball season, there are also eight NBA games on the schedule for those who prefer the pro game. Among the teams in action are the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers, who suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday when they were defeated by the Atlanta Hawks. One day after visiting the White House LeBron James and company take on the struggling Washington Wizards, with starting point guard John Wall having pulled off the “feat” of getting ejected from two straight games.

Also of not Friday is the matchup between the Toronto Raptors and the 6-1 Charlotte Hornets, with the latter having flown under the radar to this point in the season. Kemba Walker and Nicolas Batum have led the way for Charlotte, which has also received solid contributions from its reserves. DeMar DeRozan, who currently leads the NBA in scoring at just over 34 points per game, will have to deal with the defensive abilities of both Batum and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Friday night.

And in the only game being televised nationally, the L.A. Clippers visit Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Doc Rivers’ team has already picked up road wins in Portland and San Antonio, but their lone defeat came at home against the Thunder just over a week ago. They’ll look to avenge that loss, and the point guard matchup between Westbrook and Chris Paul sets up to be highly entertaining. Below are the times and television listings for Friday, with all times being Eastern.
