Tonight on SmackDown Live, it’s the last show prior to Sunday’s Tables, Ladders and Chairs pay-per-view. American Alpha will go head to head with Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton, with the winner facing Heath Slater and Rhyno at TLC. Plus, James Ellsworth now has a title opportunity; will that match officially be booked tonight? The show will be broadcast at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time from Columbia, South Carolina on the USA Network. Read on for match results and spoilers, followed by a preview of the night’s events written earlier today.
8:00 – Renee Young welcomes out Alexa Bliss and Becky Lynch for a contract signing. Bliss tells Renee Young to leave, and Lynch and Bliss proceed to argue back and forth. Bliss says that Lynch only won against her in Glasgow due to dumb luck, and Lynch says Bliss acts like a four-year-old. Bliss says that life isn’t like the Disney Channel as Lynch imagines it to be where you can work hard and accomplish anything; there’s always someone better than you, which is why Bliss is going to win the championship at TLC.
Lynch and Bliss both sign the contract. Lynch and Bliss begin to brawl in the ring, with Lynch initiating the fight with a punch. Lynch tries to throw Bliss into a table; the two struggle on the top rope, but Bliss is able to push Lynch, who falls and breaks the table. Lynch is left injured in the ring as Bliss leaves.
8:17 – Dolph Ziggler and Kalisto defeat The Miz and Baron Corbin by disqualification. The Miz and Corbin are eliminated when Corbin uses a chair to attack Kalisto.
8:34 – Backstage, American Alpha says that they’re more than prepared to face the Wyatts, although they weren’t prepared for the Wyatts to show up last week after they had already won. Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton appear, with Orton saying that he used to be blind like American Alpha but now he sees everything.
8:41 – Carmella enters. She says she has a special message for Nikki Bella’s boyfriend, John Cena: she wants to publicly apologize for what she’s going to be doing to Bella at TLC. She says, though, that she’ll be doing Cena a favor because Bella will be beaten up so badly she won’t even be thinking about getting married anymore.
Nikki Bella runs in and quickly starts beating up Carmella. Carmella is forced to flee backstage.
8:53 – Dean Ambrose, hosting Ambrose Asylum: TLC Edition. He welcomes out his first guest, James Ellsworth. Ambrose congratulates Ellsworth on his contract, asking if he ever thought he’d be standing in this ring as a full-time member of SmackDown Live. Ellsworth says that six months ago, he would have never imagined he’d be on SmackDown Live at all, but he kept showing up and kept fighting. Ellsworth thanks Ambrose, saying that if there’s anything he needs, he’ll be there. Ambrose says he wouldn’t mind if Ellsworth washed his car and picked up his dry cleaning.
Ambrose goes on to ask Ellsworth who he’s rooting for this Sunday: Ambrose or Styles. Ellsworth says that he has defeated AJ Styles three times, so maybe it would be better if he got to face Styles again in his title match.
AJ Styles enters. He tells Ellsworth that he’s nothing more than a prop Ambrose is using to insult Styles. Styles compares Ellsworth to a ventriloquist dummy, and Ambrose says that this means Styles lost to a dummy three times. Styles says that Ambrose interfered all three times and he’s sick of Ambrose making him out to be a joke. This Sunday, he’ll force Ambrose to respect him during their TLC match. After that, he’s got something special in mind for Ellsworth, and Styles dares Ellsworth to show up on Sunday. Ambrose says that Styles is way too easy to mess with, saying that he’s never been more rattled in his life.
Styles starts beating up both Ambrose and Ellsworth, throwing Ambrose into the steel steps and hitting Ellsworth with a ladder and a chair. He proceeds to deliver a Styles clash to Ellsworth while standing on top of the steel stairs. Afterwards, Ellsworth is carried out on a stretcher by the medics.
9:12 – Backstage, Ambrose travels with Ellsworth as he’s taken into a ambulance.
9:13 – Kane defeats Luke Harper.
9:33 – Backstage, Becky Lynch says she has a bruised spine thanks to Alexa Bliss’ match earlier tonight, but she will defend her championship at TLC no matter what.
9:34 – Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton defeat American Alpha. Just when American Alpha has the upper hand, the lights go out and Luke Harper appears. This distracts Jason Jordan and gives Bray Wyatt the opportunity to get the pin.
9:58 – Backstage, Heath Slater and Rhyno say they’re prepared to face Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton at TLC. AJ Styles interrupts the interview, saying that no one cares about the tag team title. Suddenly, Dean Ambrose runs in and attacks AJ Styles, wailing on him as the show ends.
At TLC on Sunday, Heath Slater and Rhyno must defend their Tag Team Championship belt, but their opponents have not yet been determined. Tonight, Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton fight American Alpha for the opportunity to take on the champions this Sunday. American Alpha had an impressive showing last week, defeating Breezango, The Vaudevillains and the Usos back-to-back in a tag team elimination match. Will they be the ones to snag the title? If so, what will happen to Heath Slater’s kids?
Plus, last week James Ellsworth defeated WWE World Champion AJ Styles for the third time, once again with the help of Dean Ambrose. As a result, not only did Ellsworth win himself a contract, but he will also now receive an opportunity to challenge Styles for the title. When will this match take place? What will Styles’ reaction be to getting utterly humiliated by Ellsworth and Ambrose yet again? And how will Ambrose and Styles leave things prior to their TLC match on Sunday, where the World Championship belt is up for grabs?
Speaking of TLC, that pay-per-view will also feature a battle for the SmackDown Women’s Championship between Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss. Last week, Lynch showed herself to be a formidable opponent once again when she defeated Natalya in a non-title match. Presumably, Alexa Bliss will confront the Irish Lass Kicker tonight with just a few days to go until the biggest opportunity of Bliss’ career.
And when it comes to final confrontations, there’s sure to be an explosive one between The Miz and Dolph Ziggler, as the two of them have another Intercontinental Championship match at TLC. Ziggler recently won the title from The Miz, but he couldn’t hold on to it for more than a few weeks before The Miz earned it right back. Yet The Miz continues to cheat his way to victory, only holding the title now because Maryse helped him in his most recent match against Ziggler. Will Ziggler have something to say about The Miz’s constant bending of the rules ahead of Sunday’s pay-per-view? Will anything be done to prevent Maryse from getting involved?
