College Football Rankings: Predictions for Final College Football Playoff Rankings 2016-17

No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes

Record: 11-1

Current CFB Playoff Ranking: 2nd

Key Wins: at Oklahoma, at Wisconsin, Nebraska, Michigan

What the Committee Will Like: The Buckeyes gathered around the television in their pajamas to watch the college football conference championship games as they had the week off. Pajamas may be an exaggeration, but Ohio State may have been in the best possible scenario heading into the final week of the regular season. They started the weekend with a head start on the other top teams at number two in the rankings and are unlikely to fall out of the College Football Playoff.

Areas of Concern: Rankings aside, the committee is in a real bind with Ohio State. They have always stressed the importance of a conference championship. They now have a plausible scenario where a team could benefit from not playing in the conference championship game. While it would be shocking for Ohio State to not make the playoff, fans saw TCU drop from 3 to 6 in the final 2014 rankings despite the Horned Frogs winning their final game. We think the committee hedges a bit by putting them at four behind three teams with a conference championship. (Getty)
