Tonight at WWE’s TLC pay-per-view, The Miz and Dolph Ziggler went at it in a ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship. At one point, The Miz fell while trying to grab the belt and he seemed to injure his knee, proceeding to limp for the rest of the match. Was this real, or simply a part of the storyline?
In the moment, it definitely looked like The Miz might have actually been hurt, with the fact that he nearly yelled out “mother f–er” lending credence to this theory. But when rewatching the fall, it seems pretty clear that he is completely fine and was just selling the injury incredibly well. Also, although he generally limped throughout the remainder of the match, there were a few moments when The Miz put weight on his “injured” knee after the fall, suggesting that fans have nothing to worry about.
The Miz has done an amazing job of selling injuries over the years, particularly knee injuries. A similar situation unfolded during Money in the Bank 2011, another pay-per-view event where fans speculated that The Miz had suffered a knee injury during a ladder match but where he turned out to be completely fine, fooling everyone and having complete control of how he landed.
Based on social media during the last half of tonight’s match, The Miz certainly did his job.
At the conclusion of The Miz and Dolph Ziggler’s ladder match this evening, The Miz was able to grab the belt and retain his title of Intercontinental Champion. In theory, this was Dolph Ziggler’s final shot at the championship, so it’s unclear where he will go from here.
TLC is currently ongoing on the WWE Network.
