If Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is well protected from the attack of the Seattle Seahawks defense in tonight’s Wild Card game between the two teams, the credit will belong to some unusual faces.

Not only is Detroit without center Travis Swanson in this road playoff game, but it will also be without the services of offensive tackle Riley Reiff as well.

Reiff injured his hip before the Lions’ regular season finale in Green Bay against the Packers, and was was listed as inactive for tonight’s game.

Filling in for Reiff is Cornelius Lucas, who is actually third on Detroit’s normal depth chart. Reiff’s normal backup, Corey Robinson, injured his foot this week and was placed on the injured reserve. Lucas has six starts and played in 35 games over three seasons, all with the Lions.

If Detroit is going to have success against one of the NFL’s most daunting pass rushes tonight, they will need Lucas to play the best game of his career.
