As he’s done during the season, Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman provided the spark for his team’s high-powered offense in Super Bowl 51 against the New England Patriots.

And that spark started right away, when Freeman broke loose on Atlanta’s first play from scrimmage, gaining 37 yards on a huge run.

But that wasn’t it, as Freeman followed it up on the Falcons’ third offensive drive of the game. He put Atlanta ahead early on the Patriots — 7-0 — with a 5-yard touchdown scamper.

Freeman’s shifty ability out of the backfield proved to be difficult for the Patriots’ defensive line and linebackers to stop, until the second half. New England’s defense tightened up after the halftime break, and capitalized on it. The Patriots came back from 21-points down to win the game, 34-28 in overtime.

Despite the loss, Freeman still had a huge game for the Falcons. Here are his stats from the Super Bowl.

IT was Atlanta’s second-ever time reaching the Super Bowl, but it wasn’t able to get things done against the Patriots. Brady outshined all other players on the field despite a slow start, going 43-for-62 for 466 yards and 2 touchdowns. Once again, Brady received Super Bowl MVP honors and held the Lombardi Trophy for his fifth time.
