Game Preview: Gonzaga takes on South Carolina in a matchup featuring two teams making their Final Four debut. Gonzaga was once seen as Cinderella, but Mark Few has turned the Bulldogs into a powerhouse college basketball program.
South Carolina is the closest thing to Cinderella this year’s tournament produced. While the Gamecocks play in the SEC, South Carolina does not have a recent history of NCAA tournament success. The Gamecocks are a seven seed and knocked off three of the top four seeds in the East region to advance to the Final Four.
South Carolina defeated Duke, Baylor and Florida in a surprising tournament run. The Gamecoks are led by veteran playmaker Sindarius Thornwell.
Gonzaga’s road has not been as difficult, but the Bulldogs have lived up to their expectations as a top seed. Gonzaga’s wins include Northwestern, West Virginia and Xavier to book their trip to Arizona.
