Who Was the WWE Referee Who Fell Out of the Ring on ‘Raw’?

After Monday Night Raw this week, WWE fans everywhere were talking not about Braun Strowman or Big Show, but about the WWE referee who took a bump during the ring collapse.

At the conclusion of Monday’s show, the ring collapsed during a match between Braun Strowman and Big Show. While it collapsed, standing inside was the referee, whose name is John Cone; he had been leaning onto the ropes and fell backwards when the ropes snapped.

Cone has worked with the WWE since 2006. He had previously been serving as a referee on the independent circuit for 10 years. This is hardly the first time that Cone has taken a bump in the WWE ring; at Extreme Rules 2012, he was clotheslined by Brock Lesnar.

Cone has said that it was John Laurinaitis who helped him get into the WWE.

“John Laurinaitis came to a wrestling camp that Harley Race was having, and I was one of the referees there,” Cone told The Pitch. “At the end of the day, John Laurinaitis came up to me and asked for my information, said he’d like to stay in touch. Probably about three months later, there was a show at Kemper Arena, and I was invited to come down and have a tryout match. Then I got another tryout match in St. Louis, and I got hired.”

Outside of wrestling, John Cone and his wife own Donut King in Kansas City.

Since Monday Night Raw wrapped up, Twitter has been ablaze with memes about John Cone, with some WWE employees chiming in.
