WWE Money in the Bank 2017: The Results & Highlights You Need to Know

Welcome to the one WWE PPV where ladders and title shot briefcases are the sole focus.

SmackDown Live will be the brand who’s Superstars will be vying to claim that lauded WWE Championship opportunity. Six male competitors and five female rivals will be fighting to climb the ladder to victory in their respective MITB matches. As for the WWE Championship and SmackDown Live Women’s Championship, Jinder Mahal will face Randy Orton in a rematch and Naomi will take on the returning Lana. This special WWE event has a solid lineup – two MITB matches, a WWE Championship bout, a Women’s Championship scuffle, a Tag Team Championship duel and a tag team Kickoff show encounter. This show is set to be a great one.

The Hype Bros (Mojo Rawley and Zack Ryder) vs. The Colóns (Primo Colón and Epico Colón)

Winners: The Hype Bros!

Highlights: Ryder and Epico went right at each other while some crowd appreciation tactics from Ryder. Ryder got the better of him with a nice dropkick and a tag team maneuver with Mojo. Epico eventually fought off Mojo, tagged in Primo and went to work. A slap from Primo did nothing but wake up Mojo, who proceeded to freak Primo out with his football taunting. When Ryder got back into the ring, he landed a nice Baseball Slide dropkick on both opponents on the outside. The match got back into the ring with Ryder getting distracted and kicked by Epico, which finally gave the advantage to The Colóns.

Ever since that moment, Epico worked on Ryder’s back and leg with a Single Leg Crab. Ryder soon made his escape, but Epico continued to target Ryder’s leg. Primo made sure to continue the damage done to Ryder by Epico when he got tagged in. After dealing with double offense from The Colóns, Ryder finally took Primo down with a neckbreaker that led into him tagging in Mojo. Mojo’s hype helped him lay in most of his best moves on Primo. Ryder aided Mojo by landing his Broski Boot on Epico. Soon after, a Hype Ryder managed to finish off Primo for the win.


Naomi (c) vs. Lana (WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship)

Winner: And still the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, Naomi!

Highlights: Lana tried to get fancy once the bell rang, but Naomi ran right at Lana with raging punched and kicks. Lana shoved her away for a few seconds, but Naomi got back into attack mode once she got ahold of Lana again. Naomi ended up trying to land a side kick to Lana on the ring apron, but Lana caught her leg and draped it right over the top rope. Lana then used this opportunity to begin taking it to the champion. Lana focused much of her offense on Naomi’s now injured leg. Lana remained in control for a good while until Naomi laid into her with various kicks and a nasty Rear View. Lana managed to fight back by hitting her unique spinebuster on Naomi, but Naomi managed to survive it. Shockingly, Carmella’s music hit. The crowd looked on as Carmella signaled that she was ready to cash in her title shot. Carmella decided not cash in just yet, though. Naomi ended up causing lana to tap out with her Slay-o-mission. After the match, Naomi stared down Carmella as she kept her briefcase and left the ringside area.


Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Natalya vs. Tamina vs. Carmella (with James Ellsworth) (Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship Match Contract)

Winner: 2017’s Ms. Money in the Bank, Carmella!

Highlights: Every woman expect Tamina tried to retrieve a ladder once the bell officially rang. Tamina thwarted all their efforts, but then Charlotte entered the ring to send her outside via big boot. Natalya, Tamina, Charlotte all laid into each other with big moves soon after. Carmella tried to get involved, but she was taken out quickly with a Tamina Samoan Drop. Tamina eventually gained control and catapulted Natalya’s face right into a ladder. She then smashed ladder into Becky’s face, but the same was done to her once Charlotte got back to her feet. Natalya ended up forcing Charlotte to the outside while Becky threw a ladder right onto Tamina. Becky and Natalya got into a tug of war over a ladder for a bit, but they decided to use the ladder to shove Tamina down to the mat. Becky ended up shoving Natalya down too and knocking Carmella off the ring apron. Once she turned back around though, Becky got launched onto a ladder via a body slam from Natalya.

Natalya picked up a ladder and looked to make history, but Charlotte cut her off with an Electric Chair Drop. Charlotte looked to be gaining ground as she ascended the ladder, but Carmella was able to stop her halfway. Charlotte soon recovered and began battling with Carmella atop the ladder. Tamina re-entered the ring to shove the ladder down and force both women to fall face first onto the top rope. Tamina looked to pick up another ladder, but Natalya cut her off with a ladder strike. While Natalya was looking to pick up a ladder of her own, Becky attacked from behind. Natalya countered her with a Sharpshooter, but Carmella broke up her submission attempt after a few seconds. Charlotte hopped back into the ring and got into a scuffle with both ladies. The action started to crescendo even more as Becky pulled off her corner kick to Natalya on a ladder. Carmella got back in and tried to make another attempt at getting the briefcase, but Charlotte cleaned her clock with a big boot. Charlotte did the same to Becky and looked to climb the ladder again, but Tamina headbutted her right off.

Charlotte got back to her feet and speared Tamina to the outside. Madness soon ensued when Charlotte took out Tamina and Natalya with a top rope splash. Back inside the ring, Becky powerbombed Carmella right off the ladder. Becky made her way to the top of the ladder, but James Ellsworth was there to stop her. James pulled off all the hard work when he climbed the ladder and threw it right into Carmella’s waiting hands. The pissed off crowd and confused referees on the outside debated while Carmella celebrated with her briefcase.
