Colorado Rockies center fielder Charlie Blackmon will be participating in the 2017 MLB Home Run Derby and was named a starter for the 2017 All-Star Game. He will face off against Dodgers rookie Cody Bellinger in the first round of the Derby and will bat leadoff in the All-Star Game. Blackmon’s first full-season came in 2014, and he was made the All-Star team that year as a reserve. Blackmon had an excellent 2016 season, batting .324 with 29 home runs, 82 RBIs, 17 stolen bases and a .933 OPS. Those numbers were good enough to earn him his first Silver Slugger.
Blackmon is off to a great start in 2017. He is batting .319 with 20 home runs, 61 RBIs, 8 stolen bases and a .955 OPS. He was named N.L. Player of the Month in May, after batting .359 with 24 runs, 22 RBIs and a 1.037 OPS.
In addition to being an all-star caliber baseball player with an all-star caliber beard, Blackmon maintains a pretty hilarious Twitter page. Blackmon, who goes by Chuck_Nasty on social media, has certainly established himself as one of MLB’s most colorful characters.
The bearded one recently posted about a troubling encounter during a recent visit to his barber:
Blackmon also posted a picture with his surprising doppelganger:
With jokes like these, Blackmon could have a career in stand-up comedy after his baseball days are over:
In addition to being well known for his beard and eye-brow hair, Blackmon’s mullet has also become famous. Here’s a look at Blackmon’s “sunsreen saver”:
At least he gave people the opportunity to pick his walk-up song:
